I had been to Soul Yoga for their regular power flow classes and kept hearing about their sculpt class. It was typically met with follow ups of “oh my god” and other words that I won’t type here so it’s no surprise that it took me a while to finally give it a go. The only thing I wish is that I went sooner!
The Soul Yoga sculpt class takes place in a heated room and incorporates weights for added toning. It blends yoga, cardio moves, and barre like isometric movements to not only gets your heart rate up but gets deep into your muscles.
I took Lizzy’s class during one of Soul’s $5 Fridays (you can sign-up here) and the room was packed. It was above 90 degrees so once the class started we were pouring sweat. Lizzy did a great job of keeping the energy high and the music pumping. At one point I felt like I was just bopping around in the club while running in place to the beat. Then we completed a quick flow and picked up the weights. The weighted segments felt very familiar to me since I’m a huge fan of barre. Light weights (the 1 to 3 lb range) and small movements are used to fatigue the muscles. Lizzy also added in burst of cardio to really get the heart rate up with things like mountain climbers, squats, and star jumps.
This class was definitely challenging, so I would encourage you to do it as your only workout of the day or try a regular heated power flow class first before jumping in. It was a ton of fun but you are definitely going to work hard. It’s also important to drink a lot of water before, during, and after. Since the room is heated you are going to sweat a lot so remaining hydrated is key!

Until next time!
