It all started with a New Year’s Resolution in Myrtle Beach just a few years ago. Now the healthy franchise has expanded to the Upstate and offers everything from clean eating, meal plans and much more. Now let’s learn how two friends from South Carolina brought Clean Eatz to Greenville. It’s time to meet the owners Matt Tanner and Eric Dunn of Clean Eatz.
360: How did you first discover Clean Eatz?
Matt: I found out about Clean Eatz in January 2016. I was getting on my New Year’s Resolutions and I was searching for a meal plan service. I looked online first and everything was so expensive ($10-$12 per meal.) I was willing to stomach the cost when my girlfriend mentioned that a new meal plan place had just opened up in Myrtle Beach called Clean Eatz. I went to the store to find out that they also had a sit-down restaurant. I ordered The Arnold, and the rest is history LOL. I tried the meal plans the following week and I was hooked.
360: What made you decide to open your own franchise and first Clean Eatz in Greenville?
Matt: I learned from the Myrtle Beach store owners that they opened the first Clean Eatz franchised restaurant in South Carolina. Over the next few months, I worked on getting approval from the franchisors to buy into the franchise. I knew I wanted to be a part of this restaurant, because I saw how much of a difference it could make in people’s lives. Clean Eatz makes it so easy to eat a tasty and healthy meal when you are eating out and that’s hard to find.
Opening Clean Eatz continued…
Matt: Once I was approved to buy into the franchise, I had to pick my territory. I was leaning toward my hometown (Lexington, SC), but someone beat me to it! This is when I called my good friend, Eric, who was finishing his up his MBA at Clemson in Greenville, SC.
Eric: Matt called me about this opportunity and I was excited before I had even eaten at a Clean Eatz. I told Matt that I was loving Greenville, and the community up here was hungry for a healthy, fast casual option. We officially secured the Greenville, SC territory in April 2016.
360: Give us the quick pitch. Why Clean Eatz?
Matt: Clean Eatz is a game changer for busy people. We give you tons of convenient options at our restaurant. Whether you are trying to lose, gain, or maintain, we have meals to help you accomplish your goals.
Eric: 3 Words: It’s a Lifestyle. You cannot simply eat Clean Eatz and lose all the weight or make all the gains. You have to be committed to a healthy lifestyle of clean eating and daily exercise.
360: What’s your favorite item on the menu?
Matt: The Clean Eatz Bison Burger – at only 415 calories, sometimes I have to make it a double after a long workout. It comes complete with Bison Patty, Turkey Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato and Low Fat American Cheese!
Eric: Build A Bowl – It’s definitely everyone’s favorite. With over 2 million combinations, everyone can get what they want. You get to choose a protein, base, three veggies, and a sauce. My favorite bowl combination is chicken with a cauliflower rice base with mushrooms, broccoli, and carrots and a teriyaki sauce. It’s pure health in a bowl!
What makes Clean Eatz “Clean”?
Matt: Nothing in this restaurant is fried or cooked with oils. All of our veggies are steamed on the grill, our sweet potatoes are baked, our proteins are freshly prepared. We try to keep the healthy lifestyle affordable so not everything in our restaurant is non-GMO and organic. The franchise and our location are committed to helping people get rid of fast food and take their first step to a healthy lifestyle.
360: Moving forward into 2018 — what’s on the horizon?
Matt: Clean Eatz is such a young franchise, so be on the lookout for a ton of new things in 2018. We just recently updated all of our sauces with less sugar and fat. We also are introducing new flavored waters with ZERO aspartame. We are excited to serve this community and to help people of all ages reach their heathy lifestyle goals!
Eric: Clean Eatz Greenville SC plans on anchoring down in the community this year, so be on the lookout for us to sponsor and be a part of some fun and important events. We hope to start looking for location #2 by the end of the year, so let us know where you think the next one should go!
360: Great, thanks guys! Appreciate your time. Now let’s eat!
