Kids eat FREE this summer in the Upstate…
As a teacher, bittersweet is not a word I’ve used to describe my last day of school. I always look forward to my summers. Not because of my students or co-workers – I definitely miss them (I’ve been so blessed with amazing work friends.) However, there is one thing that gets to me when saying our final (and slightly dramatic) goodbyes.
There’s always one or two kids who aren’t quite as excited about leaving. I made the mistake once of asking why. Cue the tears. Unfortunately, but not necessarily surprising, there are kids who miss meals when they aren’t in school. Lots of parents work an obscene amount of hours, trying to support their families and aren’t able to be home to make sure the kids are eating more than a bag of Cheetos for lunch.
For this reason, I am thrilled about a movement that’s taking place around the Upstate this summer. Below is a list of places serving free lunch (18 yrs. & under) funded through the Summer Food Service Program with Greenville County Schools:

Our city has pulled together to meet the needs of Greenville County children. Yet another reason I am proud to call Greenville my home.
