20th Annual MAC Open Studios
It’s almost time for the 20th Annual Metropolitan Arts Council’s Open Studios!
Open Studios was designed to promote communication between artists and the community, giving visitors an up close and personal peek into the artistic process. Speaking of up close and personal, close your laptops and change out of your yoga pants, because it’s in person this year!
Featuring 139 artists across 96 locations in a 15-mile radius of Downtown Greenville, Easley, Greer, Travelers Rest, and Simpsonville. Director of Marketing, Erin Turner, is excited because “there’s something for everybody!”
You can grab your Open Studios catalogue at various retail locations around the Upstate or in the November 5th edition of the Greenville Journal. Or can also download the app on any smartphone device here and create a map (use Google Maps to travel to your favorite studios). Also included in the app will be videos of the artists’ studios, along with their individual hours and contact info.
Mark your calendars:
Saturday, November 13, 10am-6pm
Sunday, November 14, 12pm-6pm
Preview Day is Saturday, November 6 from 10am-6pm (Hooray for extended hours!)
This year’s event includes 139 artists, five of which are Dwain Skinner Open Studios Fellows. Dwain was an “amazingly talented” artist and sculptor. A native of Greer, Skinner left the corporate world to pursue art full-time. He prepared over one hundred pieces before the opening of Woodbine Studio and Gallery. “Dwain left us far too early in 2019. His artistry, warmth, humor, and charming and kind demeanor are greatly missed.”
In his honor, the following new artists have been recognized as Dwain Skinner Open Studios Fellows for 2021 (most will participate in Preview Day):
A-N-D, 210 Sassafras Drive, Taylors
Azniv Chorbadjian, 1108 Poinsett Highway, Greenville
Mary Jo Franks, Stella Studio, 1707 North Main Street, Greenville
Katrina Piercy, Roots Studio, 125 Pinelands Place, Travelers Rest
Greg Ramsey, RamseyPaints, 148 River Street, Suite 100, Greenville
ICYMI, Greenville was voted No. 5 Best Small City in the United States by Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards. The creative energy within the community plays a part in the city’s attraction. We’re more than a pretty waterfall in the middle of town.
Let this year’s Open Studios ignite your passion for the arts!
