WHY YOU SHOULD INTERN WITH GREENVILLE360
Have you ever watched a show on TV and thought: “I wish a ________ like that existed in real life”? Fill in the blank however you wish: hospital, school, job, home… we’ve all envied the perfectly designed environments that our favorite characters live and work in.
Learning about the opportunity to intern with Greenville360’s CEO and Founder David Kabrin was like stepping on to the set of a TV show about the perfect internship and getting told I was to play a major part. So here’s a backstage look at my ideal internship checklist, and how my role at Greenvill360 stacked up. (Don’t worry, no cheesy laugh tracks here.)
Hands on involvement? ✓
One of 360’s missions is to use almost entirely original material. Every picture on their social media is taken by 360, for 360. It doesn’t get more hands on then laying on your stomach in Falls Park to get that perfect spring shot, or taking a bite out of a Chocolate Moose cupcake. As an intern, I learned how to create, curate and choose content based on quality and consumer interest – applicable lessons in any career.
Networking and connections? ✓
While interning with 360 I learned what truly makes Greenville a special place is not the abundance of delicious tacos (although that’s definitely a selling point), but the people. From digital designers and coffee connoisseurs, to bow tie boutiquers and soccer stars, the diverse and influential connections I made through 360 helped expand my network and improve my professional people skills.
Creative outlets? ✓
Unlike many internships that seemingly view their interns as mindless paperwork robots, 360 provided me with endless opportunities to express and challenge my creative side through writing, reading, photography, design and more.
A resume and portfolio builder? ✓
5 months of these opportunities accumulated into over 40 published blog posts and 10 folders of photographs that I will be proudly include in any future college or job interview.
Work that truly matters? ✓
The best part? The work that I produced throughout my time as an intern was actually used and valued – never “busy work.” In addition, the local businesses and individuals that work with Greenville360 each have a unique and important story that is impacting our city daily, so substantial and dynamic content isn’t hard to generate.
A passionate and experienced mentor? ✓
Lastly, you will not meet someone more passionate or motivated about his work than David Kabrin. His excitement is contagious, and before you know it, your head will be spinning with all that Greenville has to offer. As an inexperienced highschooler with a severe lack of organizational talent, I am so thankful for David’s understanding, patience, and consistent push to improve my work. Based on his own experiences, he taught me key aspects of succeeding in professional environments, and the way David conducts business honestly and personally is something I respect and hope to emulate.
So, are you ready to step into the studio and score the lead role in the best internship ever? Yeah, I thought so. (And I didn’t even mention the beautiful work space right in the heart of Downtown Greenville… I’ll let you see for yourself).
As always, thanks for reading!
