As a high schoolers with minimum wage jobs and approximately zero money, my friends and I are constantly searching for the cheapest ways to enjoy the beautiful area around us, and we’ve been surprised to find how much Greenville has to offer! If you’re broke and fun like us, and looking for something to do on these rainy winter days, here are a few dirt cheap date ideas we’ve enjoyed: Volume 1
Visit the Greenville Library
Cost: FREE
Maybe I’m a nerd, but a day at the library is one of my favorite ways to spend a winter Saturday. Get a muffin at the cafe and knock out some research for your next project!
Pet Puppies & Kittens…
Cost: FREE (Unless you adopt)
Visit Animal Care and Greenville Humane Society, and take some time to love on some adorable pets without a home!
*WARNING* only attempt with extreme strength or you will purchase a pet. PS, they’re some great adult dogs and cats available to pet too!
Go Stargazing
Pack some blankets and drive to the top of Paris Mountain on a clear night to experience a beautiful view of the city and the stars above – add a picnic and you have a perfect cheap date night!
Sample Food
Cost: FREE
Hungry and broke? Treat yourself to every sample at Whole Foods on Woodruff Rd. I’m not saying I’ve done it, but the sea salt pretzels are delicious with the chocolate cranberry bar…
Try Swing Dancing
Cost: $2
Go swing dancing on a Tuesday night with Greenville Swing at 100 E Park Ave. for only $2! Don’t worry, it’s a judgement free zone.
Go Antiquing
Cost: FREE
Check out The Cottage Grove Vintage Market on Laurens Rd. and discover antique furniture, art, accessories and more, or take a girls’ day to try on vintage clothes at one of my favorite places, Kate DiNatale Vintage in Greenville’s West End Village.
Go Rock Climbing
Cost: $16
While this option isn’t as cheap, $16 provides you with a full day pass to rock climb at The Mountain Goat off Haywood Rd. and 100% of proceeds go to providing under resourced and at-risk children with rock climbing and outdoor experiences!
Volunteer Together
Cost: FREE
Grocery shop for under-resourced families at Harvest Hope Food Bank, support young mothers through Little Steps, or help keep the Reedy River clean with Friends of The Reedy River!
