Welcome to fall, ya’ll! Ignore the fact that it’s ninety eight thousand degrees outside. We’re gearing up and getting excited about everything the Upstate has to offer this season. Numero uno on our To Do list?
MadWorld Haunted Attractions
Ranked one of America’s Top Haunted Attractions and #1 in South Carolina multiple times, Madworld Haunted Attractions is the perfect way to kick off the Halloween season! Our review from last year answered a lot of your frequently asked questions. Read it here.
New Haunts In 2024
There are two new haunts that will jump out at you – pun intended. The Evil Nun Chapel was a level of creepy you expect to see in movies, but not in real life. Honestly, that could be said of the entire trail. Phobia, the name says it all! They stress before entering the trail how important it is to keep moving. You don’t want to be the one to slow the flow. I’m not going to share the details, but there was one spot in the Phobia house where I slowed the flow. Eerily entertaining and not for the faint of heart, I assure you!
Our Review
If you walk through the trail and do not jump out of your skin, we have nothing in common. “These guys are excited. They’re gonna light ya’ll up tonight,” co-owner, Joseph Thompson, told us before the gates opened Friday night. He did not lie. Did I brave the night without a No Scare medallion? No, I did not. In fact, our entire group purchased medallions. Listen, I hear you guys laughing, but this place is no joke! “Nope, I’m not doing this,” I screamed more than once. My group (literally) pushed me through. I made it to the other side and, in the words of Ross Geller, “I’m fine!”
With upgrades to rooms and additions throughout, I swear it was scarier than last year. My son, JP, joined us this time. He has autism and cannot handle the lights/sounds/crowds of the actual trail, but thoroughly enjoyed the night. Thankfully, Madworld is so much more than a Haunted House. JP was able to sit around the fire, play putt-putt, carnival games, and rest at a picnic table under the shelter when he needed a break from the action. Seeing his hesitation, the cast was sensitive in their interactions. *I know this particular review isn’t relevant to all, but it means the world to a parent of a child or teen with special needs.
Know Before You Go
- Lines form FAST! Get there when the gates open. 2024 schedule
- There are many different ticket options, check them out here.
- You’ll work up an appetite, plan to take advantage of the food trucks on site!
- No purchase necessary to get in the gate. Be prepared to show your signed waiver – QR codes are stationed at multiple spots in front of the entrance.
- Madworld is family-friendly. Kids enjoy dancing to the music, eating by the fire, and snapping selfies with the characters.
- If you’re going in the haunted houses, flip flops and sandals might not be the best idea, IMO.
Fun Fact: In 2021, Robin Givens (yes, the actress), directed a movie called, Haunted Trail. Filming took place in October and November of 2020 on the grounds during Madworld’s off days. We give the movie 2.5 out of 5 stars, but it was worth watching just to see the set. The plot gives off major SCREAM vibes… that’s all I’m saying!
Joseph, Tim, cast and crew, you’ve outdone yourselves once again! “Our goal is to be better than the night before,” Thompson said.
I guess that means we have to go back!
