If you’re looking for an evening of heart-warming music and timeless storytelling, you’re in luck. The touring production of The Sound of Music returns to Greenville’s Peace Center next week, November 11-16! The classic is perfect for families, history-lovers, and anyone who cherishes the power of song and story.
Join spirited Maria as she is sent from her abbey to serve as governess to the seven children of widowed naval Captain Georg von Trapp. She blows in like a breeze, bringing fresh air into the household. Together with the children, Maria charms the Captain, eventually melting his stern heart. There’s something special about The Sound of Music. It pulls you into a world where mountains echo with excitement, courage is sung, and family finds its voice in the face of darkness.

Fascinating Fun Facts & Historical Highlights
- The musical is based on a true story (how am I just now learning this?) – Maria von Trapp became governess to the von Trapp children in Austria and later married their father. The family immigrated to the United States in 1938.
- The show was the final collaboration between the legendary duo, Oscar Hammerstein and Richard Rogers.
- Popular song, “Edelweiss” is often assumed to be a traditional Austrian folk song, but was actually written specifically for the musical.
- The soundtrack from the 1965 film sold more than twenty million copies worldwide and ranked among the longest-charting soundtrack albums in U.S. history!
Tickets are on sale and many performances still have availability. As always, with popular shows, it’s wise to book soon! Check out show dates and times here.
Before You Go…
We’d like to introduce you to The Mockingbird, a brand new live-music venue from the Peace Center, right in the heart of downtown Greenville!

Housed in the historic Markley and Gullick buildings, the space blends architectural character with modern comfort and excellent acoustics. With a seating capacity of approximately 180, it’s designed for up-close, heart-felt moments – the kind of venue where you feel connected to the artists in ways larger concert halls don’t allow.
Set to open in January 2026, The Mockingbird launches as part of Peace Center’s “A Music Project” expansion.
Until next time, keep singing YOUR story, Greenville, and supporting the arts that make our city shine! See you at the Peace Center!
