Art & Light | Anchorage Exhibition Series: Christopher Rico

Art & Light Gallery and The Anchorage Restaurant are happy to announce a solo exhibition of work by Greenville, S.C. artist Christopher Rico on view at The Anchorage in The Village of West Greenville through October 7th, 2025. The Anchorage Exhibition Series brings art beyond the walls of Art & Light Gallery to offer an immersive experience that fuses culinary and visual arts. Visual artist Christopher Rico earned a BA from the University of Memphis in linguistics, and an MA from Clemson University in rhetoric, visual communication and digital literacy. Rico’s work has been exhibited in galleries in New Orleans, Los Angeles, and New York City, along with exhibitions at the Spartanburg Art Museum, and multiple university galleries including University of California at Berkeley. Rico has been in group shows in Heidelberg Germany and Queensland Australia as well as in the UK, and his writing has been published in academic journals, and two artist monographs. Rico uses oversized Asian calligraphy brushes and a gestural, meditative approach to painting. He states, “The image of a falling horse has been with me for some time now. So many associations; political, emotional, symbolic, even mythic. For me, there are myriad interpretations. The horse as symbol for empire, the inversion as a reference to tarot, a nod to surrealism perhaps, an anxiety triggered by the visual situation itself. We live in a time of immense cultural and political uncertainty.  The job of the artist is to speak of their time; making the personal universal, and if one is very fortunate, enduring. I think these will mean different things to different people, and I don’t think anyone would be wrong.”
