“Where’s the beef?” (Who remembers that commercial?) If it’s a hamburger, it’s on a bun, right? Not necessarily.

Willy Taco
Recently, on our weekly trek for Mexican food, I made a surprising discovery. While scanning the menu at Willy Taco, my eyes landed on something I never expected to find there – a cheeseburger taco!

This taco shows up with everything you’d expect from your favorite cheeseburger (unless you’re a chili person). Lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mustard – it’s all there – tucked into a fresh tortilla shell. If I’m being honest, I had my doubts. I expected crumbly (is that a word?) ground beef and shredded cheese, something more taco than burger. Instead, I was handed a full burger patty, topped with melted cheese, fresh toppings, folded like it belonged there all along.
Some foods are meant to be eaten with your hands. Hamburgers fall squarely into that category – multi-finger foods, no utensils required. The cheeseburger taco, however, had other plans! There was simply too much goodness piled on top to pick it up without making a mess. I had to go in with my fork first, strategically shrinking it down to a manageable size before committing to the full experience. Maybe I take this too seriously?
Pro Tip: Ask for extra napkins, you’ll need them!
We love Greenville’s creative flare when it comes to their food scene. Places like Willy Taco aren’t afraid to blur lines a little, to take something familiar and give it a fresh identity. Not a gimmick, just a great bite! And maybe that’s the point of this series – not just to find the best burgers, but to discover the ones hiding in plain sight… even when they’re wrapped in a tortilla!
One More Reason To Go
Willy Taco works for everyone. If you’re dining with someone who isn’t in the mood for a burger, they won’t feel stuck. The menu is full of solid options. After working my way through most of them, I can confidently say – you really can’t go wrong!
