You’ve heard it before: it’s important to brush and floss your teeth daily. So we had local dentist Dr. Andy Bullard of Comprehensive & Cosmetic Dental Studio compile a list of a few hygiene tips for when you are in between your cleanings.
Brushing for the proper length of time.
Most people brush too fast. Time yourself while you brush: 2 minutes is the proper time. Sometimes it helps to walk around while you brush so you do not get too impatient.
Brushing with the proper force.
Which is soft and gently. Brushing too hard or with anything other than a soft bristled toothbrush can wear away teeth and gums.
Floss every day.
Before bed is the best time to floss. Decay between teeth can be difficult to fix so don’t give those bacteria a safe place to hang out.
Use a fluoride toothpaste
Fluoride is the most important thing to use to prevent tooth decay.
Avoid sodas and other sugary and acidic drinks.
Water is the best thing to drink, both for your teeth and your body. Every sip you take of a drink with sugar feeds the cavity bugs, so if you drink a lot of them those bugs are very active. Sodas are also so acidic they can actually dissolve your teeth.
