It’s the kick-off to Centre Stage’s 2019-20 season! First up, is their comedy rock adaptation to Little Shop of Horrors (do you remember the 1986 movie?!) We recently got the chance to sit down and chat with one of the show’s stars who plays the “weird and exotic plant”, “Audrey II”. Without further ado, let’s go meet Javy Pagan (also their Marketing & Development Manager at Centre Stage!) of Little Shop of Horrors.
360: Tell us about your upcoming role in Little Shop of Horrors.
Javy: I play “Audrey II” the “strange and interesting plant” that comes to take over the world! The character is big and full of attitude AND gets to sing some really fun R&B/Funk tunes!
360: How did you land the role?
Javy: Every season Centre Stage hosts annual auditions. I submitted my information for “Little Shop of Horrors” and noted I would gladly accept any role offered to me (with a huge hope and prayer for Audrey II.) I was actually on vacation in Florida when I found out I had been cast as Audrey II, and will never forget that moment. This is a dream role for me and I am just so thankful for the opportunity.
360: What’s your favorite line or scene from the production? Or both!
Javy: Audrey II is only in a few scenes of the show, but each scene they reveal a little more about themselves. I really enjoy how the play unfolds in front of the audience and how each scene builds on the other. My favorite line I get to say would have to be “Does this look inanimate to you punk!?” Within the context of the scene, I think this line epitomizes Audrey II and their plan for world domination.
360: When you’re not acting & working at Centre Stage — what do you love to do?
Javy: I have a couple exciting projects coming up! First up, I’m co-directing and singing in our first benefit performance of the season, “Masquerade”, featuring the music of Andrew LLoyd Webber and Rogers and Hammerstein. Then, I get the privilege of directing our holiday variety show, “A Holly Jolly Christmas”! I hope to see all of you there!
360: Thanks, Javy! We look forward to seeing the new show soon. Break a leg!

Description: LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is the comedy rock musical audiences have been requesting for years, and it’s set to kick off Centre Stage’s 2019-2020 season with a bang! When meek floral assistant Seymour Krelbourn stumbles upon a “weird and exotic plant”, he names the peculiar perennial “Audrey II” after his beautiful co-worker, hoping to win her affection. But when the R&B singing carnivore promises him fame, fortune, and love, there’s one catch: keep the blood flowing! Featuring doo-wop and rock and roll style songs like, “Git It”, “Somewhere That’s Green” and “Suddenly Seymour”, this cult classic turned Broadway hit is sure to resonate with thrill seekers and romance fans alike!
