Dr. Keenan W. Smith has been practicing dentistry in the Upstate for nearly 20 years. A Greenville native, Dr. Smith is a graduate of Wade Hampton High School and Clemson University. In 2009, he purchased a well-established general dentistry practice founded 30 years earlier by Dr. Bob Wallace, a respected member of the dental community. Fast forward to May 2018, when Dr. Eric S. Rackley joined the practice. In 2025, he officially became co-owner, and together they formed Vineyard Dental.
We recently had the chance to sit down with both Dr. Smith and Dr. Rackley to discuss the decision to form Vineyard Dental, the services they offer, what they love about Greenville, and more. Now, without further ado, let us introduce you to the dentists at Vineyard Dental: Dr. Eric S. Rackley, DMD, FAGD and Dr. Keenan W. Smith, DMD, PA.

360: What made you want to become a dentist?
Dr. Rackley: I was drawn to dentistry because it’s a unique and exciting blend of science and art. It allows me to work with my hands to create something beautiful, while also using my head and my heart to help care for the people entrusted to me with their dental health.
360: How did the idea for Vineyard Dental come to life?
Dr. Smith: My favorite passage of the Bible is the 15th chapter of John, where Jesus is talking about the vine and the branches. As you read the passage and try to understand the imagery, the vine is Jesus, and He brings forth life and restoration. I feel like this idea of the vine can be adapted to our office as we care for our patients. Of course we want to provide optimal care, but more so than that, we want to be able to be a source of restoration. We want our practice to stand out as one with team members who work differently and try to bring joy to our patients.
360: Tell us what makes Vineyard different than other dental practices in the Upstate.
Dr. Rackley: At Vineyard, we offer a rare combination of genuine world-class warmth and unwavering dedication to clinical excellence. We believe how we make people feel is just as important as the technical care we provide (and we think that is ridiculously important). We’re committed to continually learning and refining our craft to be able to deliver the very best that dentistry has to offer to support our patients’ optimal health.
360: What kind of dental services do you provide?
Dr. Rackley: We offer everything from routine cavity fillings to total smile reconstruction. Much of our clinical work focuses on cosmetic enhancement, functional improvement, and achieving better tooth longevity and total oral health outcomes for our patients. We offer porcelain veneers, Invisalign clear aligner therapy, crowns and bridges, cosmetic composite bonding, bite analysis and bite rehabilitation, full mouth wellness scans, KoR tooth whitening, and of course – world class dental cleanings and diagnostic services with our amazing dental hygienists.
360: What do you love most about your job?
Dr. Rackley: I absolutely love the ability to give someone new confidence in their smile – we get to see not just a set of teeth, but a whole person transformed right before our eyes. It is so unbelievably rewarding!
Dr. Smith: I love building relationships with my patients. As I get to know them, not only am I trying to meet and provide for their dental needs, but I am trying to be a source of encouragement. There are a lot of patients that we meet who have had bad dental experiences. Some of these experiences took place years ago and they still are afraid every time they step into a dental office. Our office is about creating a positive dental experience. I love taking care of my patients and having them respond by saying, “that was so easy, I have been dreading that, but you made that so easy for me.” When I can change someone’s perception of dentistry, then it is a win.
360: When you’re not working, what do you love to do in Greenville?
Dr. Rackley: I love spending time having fun and making memories with my family, my amazing wife Chandler and our two precious daughters – we are also so blessed to have my parents in town. I love running on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, soaking up time at parks or the pool with our kids, and connecting with our community from Grace Church and our neighborhood. We also love food and are always eager to explore the great selection of restaurants in town.
Dr. Smith: I love to spend time with my wife Christina and our kids. We are active in serving in our church and with our neighborhood swim team. We often play board games as a family and enjoy dining out (Sushi and Italian are the favorites). I love to exercise, and I am addicted to my Peloton bike. I read a fair amount, and prefer a classic movie from the ‘80s over any TV show.
360: Thanks for chatting! It was great meeting you meeting you both. Congrats on forming into Vineyard Dental!
