5 Organization Tips to Create a Home Office…
Staying home can be stressful, but it can also be a blessing in disguise. We all long for more time, and now we have the opportunity to receive it. A lot of us are working from home and that can be a challenge. Maybe you have noticed that your desk or work space has been neglected because it hasn’t been utilized in a while. Set aside a hour, or less to organize your work space and create an area that inspires and motivates you to keep up with your work from home. Follow these 5 tips to move you in the right direction.
1. Clear Your Desk
Take everything off of your desk. Sort through every single thing and decide what belongs on your desk and what could be stored elsewhere. If you have piles of files and projects make a list of them and prioritize each one. See #2 Discard pens that no longer work, and make decisions on any other office supplies that you do not use on a daily basis.
2. Plan Your Desk
Plan for clutter on your desk. Your desk is just asking to be cluttered, it is a vast space that says, pile all the stuff you have to do on me. Set a plan in place and create a system so clutter has no place to rest. Create an on the desk filing system for files that need to remain on your desk and file the rest in a filing box or cabinet. A lot of office supplies can be organized in small clear bins and stored in your desk drawer for easy access. Organizing it in your desk drawer frees your desk of those items.
3. Clean Your Desk
Having a clean desk, and a clutter free desk are two different things. You can be clear of clutter but your desk can still be dusty. Wipe down the surface with microfiber cloth and your favorite scent of all natural cleaner. Wipe down your computer screen with a lens cloth and iClean electronics cleaner. Don’t forget to sanitize your keyboard with an alcohol wipe. I keep disposable alcohol wipes in my desk drawer. You will feel refreshed when your desk is clean and clear. Breath in and get to work.
4. Free Your Desk
Give your desk permission to be a workflow machine. Treat your desk as a space to get stuff done! Creating a space that is inspiring and letting your desk be what it is meant to be will move you forward. Create direction by setting yourself up to make progress. Clean, clear and focused. Invest in items that will help you be more efficient like this $7 3M mouse pad, aiding your attached or wireless mouse to move more quickly and efficiently. Changes do not have to be expensive.
5. Style Your Desk
Make your desk something you love. Do not be afraid to add a little style. Little touches of style will make you feel more at home in the space and heighten creativity because you are surrounded by things you find beautiful. Faux succulents, a unique jar for pens, an industrial light, a candle, a picture. Keep it simple, you don’t want to many knick knacks to clutter your work space.
