One of the things that gives meaning to my life (the other being Netflix) is a good book. For that reason, I am excited to announce that we are partnering with M. Judson Booksellers & Storytellers on Main street in Downtown Greenville to launch a monthly Community Book Read!
This Tuesday, September 26th, from 6:30-8:30pm, we want you to join us for a casual, come-as-you-are discussion of Nathan Hill’s, THE NIX. A bold American novel reminiscent of Jonathan Frozen’s THE CORRECTION, THE NIX offers us a front row seat into the (somewhat dysfunctional) life of the Andreson-Anderson family.
Abandoned when he was a child, Samuel Andreson-Anderson hasn’t seen or heard from his mother in decades. When she makes a very public and explosive reappearance into Samuel’s world, he is forced to face the past and decide what role, if any, his mother will play in his future.
I’m gonna stop there, guys, because this is a book you need to read for yourself.
Nathan Hill won the 2016 Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for THE NIX. While that is super important, I’m gonna be real for a minute. Hill’s writing style is down-to-earth and easy to follow. As far as I’m concerned, an author can win every award in the literary universe, but if I’m bored out of my mind, who really cares (#sorrynotsorry.)
There’s still time for you to stop in M. Judson or download your copy before Tuesday. We don’t care how far along you are in the story, we just want to see you there!
I’m assuming you’ve been to M. Judson. Because everyone’s been, right? For those (few) who have not, this is the perfect time for you to get to know them. And by “get to know them,” I mean sit in their adorable, tech-friendly cafe and snack on chocolate drops of heaven from The Chocolate Moose. Yep, you read that right. The Chocolate Moose is housed inside the bookstore and, trust me, I hear them calling your name!
Our hope is that the Community Reads will unite book lovers throughout Greenville and serve as a host for intellectual thoughts and unique opinions. Or you can use it as an excuse to get out of the house and eat fancy chocolate cupcakes with neighborhood friends.
Either way, I’ll wait while you add Tuesday night to your calendar…
