Season Preview: Swamp Rabbits 10th Anniversary Season…
It’s finally safe to break out the ice without fear of it melting. Fall weather has reached the South (thank God) and sports fans’ hearts turn from hot outdoor fields to cool indoor rinks.
Hockey fans of all ages will be excited to welcome their beloved Swamp Rabbits back to the ice. This year is a milestone for the team. Greenville’s hockey team will celebrate ten years when the 2019-2020 Season gets underway on Friday, October 18th.
Sports Business Journal named Greenville the second-best minor league market in the United States. “It’s an honor to live, work and play in Greenville,” says team CEO Doug Heinzer. The Swamp Rabbits recently joined the Carolina Hurricanes and Charlotte Checkers to form the Carolina Hockey Alliance. This affiliation, with two powerhouse teams, has set expectations high for this season. Director of Marketing, Jordan Kuhns says, “This is a catalyst type of season. Hockey in a southern market is not only possible, but it can thrive. This is going to be a really awesome year for the Swamp Rabbits. We are all really excited and ready to see our hard work pay off.”
Fans don’t have the privilege of seeing players outside the rink.
Community Engagement Director, Lindsey Fulcher, spearheaded the 30 Days of Hope Campaign. This program brought the team into the community every day for a month leading up to October 18th’s Opening Night. Players joined local non-profit service organizations to take advantage of volunteer opportunities and made countless donations. Stomper delighted children at the Swamp Rabbit Cafe Kids Play and read to groups of youngsters at Joe’s Place. The Reedy River looks pristine now thanks to players who teamed up with Friends of the Reedy River in their clean up efforts. “Lindsey’s not been with us long and she pulled all of this together, which is impressive,” Kuhn’s states.
These projects are only a few in a long list of the Swamp Rabbits’ contributions to our community.
Grab your sticks and pucks and make your way to the Bon Secours Wellness Arena for opening night! You’ll want to make sure you have tickets for all the home games. The Swamp Rabbits are taking on teams from Utah to Florida and destinations in-between.
We don’t want to miss a single goal!
