Dream Escapes with Shannon McGee at Centre Stage
“My works come mainly from experiences gained through years of traveling and experiencing other places.
From camping trips with my family as a child (48 states) through the wandering years as an exchange student and English teacher in Europe, I’ve walked through ancient streets and museums of Europe, hiked the Rockies and Alps, trekked up Machu Picchu, the desert Southwest and seen the midnight sun in Alaska and Norway. All these things come to me as memories and dreams and contribute to the art I create using Italian marble plasters, acid and dye stains, real earth pigments, waxes and varnishes.”
Location:
Centre Stage
501 River Street, Greenville, SC 29601
Hours: Tuesday-Thursday | 2-5pm

STILL TIME ON PYE POND Book Launch and Art Exhibit – Danielle Fontaine
STILL TIME ON PYE POND is the story of a young White woman, the author’s daughter, rejected by her paternal grandfather for marrying a Black man. The memoir is told principally in encaustic paintings, from the point of view of the mother who remains painfully silent to avoid further unraveling tenuous family bonds. Her art voices the words she cannot speak.
French Canadian writer and architect Danielle Fontaine spent the past six years painting her Pye Pond story in her studio at the Greenville Center for Creative Arts, where she was one of the inaugural artists. She and her husband are the founders of the Brandon Fellowship at GCCA.
STILL TIME ON PYE POND was published by Clemson University Press in February 2021.
“Still Time on Pye Pond is haunting and memorable. I want to look again at the images and let them wallow in my mind.” —Leo Twiggs, South Carolina Hall of Fame artist and Verner Award recipient.
