Sometimes the best eats come from the back of a truck. Fresh shrimp and all the “fixins” were boiling, low country style, the Saturday I visited The Toasty Farmer for the first (definitely not the last) time.
Have you been? The Toasty Farmer pops up every Saturday from 11am-2pm through March 10th at Brewery 85, located on Whitlee Court in Greenville. Local farmers and artisans offer the finest in cheeses, pottery, natural body products, candles, honey, organic produce and much more! Toasty Farmer is the country, non-christmas version of the popular Holiday Fair and the perfect opportunity to shop local.
The first thing I spotted when I pulled in was the food truck (insert praise hands) and four or five vendors. We spent twenty or thirty minutes shopping through all the goods before realizing there was more inside. Any given Saturday, you will find fifty or more tradesman set up throughout the grounds. The vendor list varies, making this a weekly event is now on my calendar.
The best thing to do is start at the very first station and make your way around. You’ll want to see everything. Upcountry Provisions in Travelers Rest was my first stop. I may or may not have purchased a bag of cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies. For a friend, of course. Anyone else a sucker for a cozy scent? The table full of homemade candles was worth my trip. We would be here all day if I shared all of my favorites. You really need to go and see for yourself. Men, this is not a shopping venture to shy away from. You can pull up a bar stool and keep yourself busy while your significant other spends the money!
Oyster Roasts take place throughout the season on their back patio and that’s not something you want to miss. As always they have a wide variety of Brewery 85 craft beers on tap, a 6 pack or two to take home and a growler fill up. Be sure to check their Facebook page for more detailed information and other special events.
