A few weeks ago, we went to our first ever hockey game. And by “we,” I mean all six of us (ages 6 to 69.) We are basically a dysfunctional version of the Griswold family, so let’s not talk about the van ride over. There are not enough eye-roll emojis in the world. We’ve yet to find an activity/event in town that our entire family can enjoy together. Swamp Rabbit Hockey is now on our list.
Preston carried around his hockey stick for a week in preparation for this night. He was excited enough for all of us.
The kids got to hang out behind the scenes a little before the game (thanks, Swamp Rabbits!)
JP is my science-minded kid who cares very little for sports. He thoroughly enjoyed watching the Swamp Rabbits practice and play. That’s a review, in and of itself.
They waited so patiently for the team to take the ice.
We hung around backstage long enough to get high fives from the team on their way out of the tunnel. I wish I had photos of their faces, but it was a moment I just had to live in.
Another thing that impressed me was the food. They offer some really great deals! Unlike the movie theatre, you don’t have to take out a second mortgage to eat at The Well. Kids’ meals are $5 EVERY GAME (hot dog, chips and a soda.) Be sure to check their website for the Hoppy Hour specials.
Let me assure you, you do not have to know anything about hockey to have a great time (I know nothing about hockey.) If you ask Preston, the music was worth the price of admission. At one point, I thought we were at a dance party. Move over Stella, ’cause this six year old found his groove!
Overall, it was an entertaining night, perfect for the whole family.
Be sure to check out the Hop Shop. Open select Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-1pm, it’s the one-stop shop for all your Swamp Rabbit needs. The home team then returns tomorrow night Friday, March 23rd at 7pm and again on Saturday, March 24th at 4pm. Both special themed game nights with tickets still available here.
