Meet Dr. Tanner Garey of Upstate Spine & Sport…
We are pleased to introduce you to the newest addition to the Upstate Spine & Sport team, Dr. Tanner Garey! Born and raised in Illinois, Dr. Garey recently moved to Greenville to specialize in treating musculoskeletal issues, pregnancy, newborns and infants, and sports injuries. Dr. Garey also has a special interest in women’s health and pediatric care. Now without further ado, let’s formally introduce you to Dr. Tanner Garey!
360: Tell us a little bit about your career background.
Tanner: I’m a chiropractor right here in Greenville with a focus on treating musculoskeletal issues, women’s health, newborns and infants, and sports injuries. I’m originally from Illinois and went to Monmouth College where I was a two-sport athlete, golf and basketball, and I majored in Exercise Science. ROLL SCOTS! I earned my doctorate from Logan University, but my true education came from the many seminars I took in graduate school in topics such as dry needling & acupuncture, pediatric and pregnancy care, and sports rehabilitation.
360: What brought you to Greenville?
Dr. Garey: I always wanted to settle down somewhere that was warm, had mountains, and was close to the beach. Central Illinois wasn’t going to be the place for all of that! Greenville reminds me a lot of my hometown as it feels smaller than the numbers show. The opportunity with Upstate Spine & Sport is what brought me down here with its strong reputation in evidence-based chiropractic in our industry. What sealed the deal was this friendly Greenville community filled with a lot of amazing people! I can’t wait to be a part of it and make Greenville my new home.
360: Tell us more about your new role at Upstate Spine & Sport.
Dr. Garey: Alongside Dr. David Jolson, I will be a chiropractor at Upstate Spine & Sport. We treat patients very similarly and are like-minded in our approach to patient care. One unique part of my skillset is my interest and passion for women’s health and pediatric care. My goal with working with women is to help them take control of their own pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. I also enjoy working with infants and children and have extensive training to help kids of all ages. All of my treatments are individually based on the needs of each patient – no cookie-cutter plans! Yes, my passion is women’s health and pediatrics, but I am trained to treat any patient that walks through my treatment room.
360: What do you love most about being a chiropractor?
Dr. Garey: As a chiropractor, we get to help people get back to what they love: running, playing with your kids, traveling – helping my patients meet whatever goals they have. I’m passionate about staying active and enjoying life! I want the same for my patients! There is nothing better than getting someone back to what they enjoy.
360: If you could provide us with any advice, what would it be?
Dr. Garey: Throughout my life the one piece of advice that I have lived by is to stay active. Movement is life! Movement can be anything; running, walking, hiking, riding a bike, yoga, and so many other activities. Movement is important for your mental, physical, and psychological well being. Getting outside, enjoying the sun, and getting your body moving is always the best medicine.
360: It was great meeting you, Dr. Garey! Thank you for your time and the quick photoshoot. And of course, welcome to Greenville!
